AWARDS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The Best Local Food on the 16th Street Mall
Asada Rico
Go For: One of Denver’s best breakfast burritos. Whether you opt for an express, prerolled version ($4 with bacon, sausage, chorizo, or veggies) or a made-to-order marvel (for $4.75, you can augment your eggs with the likes of carne asada and spicy beef green chile), you’ll wait in a long line to place your order, but it’s worth it. Reasons to Love Denver
BY LINDSEY B. KING • 5280 DECEMBER 2012
"Because you can find killer Mexican food in really weird places."
"Asada Rico on…the 16th Street Mall
With so many quality tacos and wraps downtown, it means something that Asada Rico’s perfectly portioned egg-and-potato breakfast burritos are a 16th Street Mall staple. $3.25 (bean and cheese burrito with guacamole), corner of 16th and Stout streets"
Asada Rico is the perfect stop for a Western breakfast. Asada’s got the best breakfast burritos on 16th, and it has always been a staple stop for myself and my coworkers. Most of us are in delicious breakfast burrito-debt to each other, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Manuel has been rolling his mom’s home-made burrito recipe out of the Asada Rico food cart on 16th Street Mall since 2009, but the flavors are drenched in a love and history that started much earlier. This is our story:
“My mom, Jennie, started selling burritos out of a cooler to support her 10 children and to be able to buy us all Christmas gifts. In fact, my first memory with her is in the kitchen, watching her cook. I remember that she loved cooking and truly enjoyed making each burrito. My mom is only 4’ 11” but she has the biggest heart that I have ever known. She’s also the best cook in the world. She loves to cook and you can taste it…she has perfected her green chili recipe."
